Nature in its purest form
Lizartza is located in the narrow Araxes river valley, where water has a great importance thanks to a existence of a spring. The name refers to the large forests surrunding it: etymologically it means «place with plenty of ash trees».

TownHall
Lizartza’s town hall is a good example of Gipuzkoa’s former architecture, with the ground floor of stone and the upper floors of wooden beams. In front of it Santa Catalina parish is located. Throughout the village there are large houses with great architectural beauty.

The original chapel was built between Lizartza and Orexa, but after finding it destroyed it was rebuilt next to the river, in front of the Orexa intersection. It is said that the Virgin was brought from Flanders in the 17th century.
Spring
Located at the outskirts, towards Navarre, it was discovered in 1859, although its explotation didn’t start until 1862, with the opening of Insalus Spa. In 1888 was declared of public utility and the company Aguas de Insalus (Insalus waters) was created for the bottling of the water. Nowadays is one of the most traditional brands.
Archaeologicalmonuments
There are neolithic dolmens –Axurdarioko Trikuharia– on the slopes on Urkita mountain, Bronze Age ones at Otsabio mountain and a burian mound on the Pagoaundi pass, on the way to the top of Laparmendi mountain, from which there’s a good view of Aralar. For spelunking loves, Illarrantzu cave is located nearby.
