They are typical garments of the Tolosa Carnival, although they are not worn every day. They are only worn on Fat Thursday, when the “chupinazo” is fired to start the festivities, and on Skinny Friday.
The use of multicoloured fabrics and shapes makes these days especially colourful in Tolosa, and there is hardly anyone in Tolosa who doesn’t have a chilaba! So if you’re coming to Carnival, wear yours and join the party!
