Traditional Basque costumes are very varied. They are usually worn for many festive occasions: parties, Christmas and, above all, dance performances.
Women wear long skirts and a headscarf. Some also wear shawls over their heads, especially on winter days. The men, on the other hand, wear long trousers, shirt, blouse or waistcoat, sash, handkerchief and abarcas or espartinas.
In Tolosaldea it is usual to dress in this way at Christmas, the eve of Santa Águeda, Special Fairs, or on the day of the Basque Tolosa Bean Festival.
