Every November Tolosa celebrates the Bean Festival, where, in addition to the special fair, the best quality bean grain is named in the Producers Contest, a gastronomic contest is held for the best preparation, and a great popular bean is celebrated. . Gastronomy, folk music in the streets, regional costumes… The atmosphere in the streets is guaranteed!
The Tolosa Bean adopts this name not because it is produced only in the town and its surroundings, but because of the importance of the Tolosa Market in its marketing. In the past, in Gipuzkoa, after the withdrawal of what was necessary for family consumption, the rest was sold in the Tolosa Market.
It is a variety of dark bean, almost black, oval in shape and with a white dot. It stands out for its thin skin, butteriness and excellent flavor, which is why, unlike other varieties, it does not need to be soaked the day before, and it is cooked without mixing it with other ingredients. In addition, it is one of the foods of plant origin richest in protein.
