Arimaz Chamber Orchestra
Tolosa | Concert
6
April
19:30
On Sunday, April 6, the Arimaz Chamber Orchestra of Tolosa will offer a sacred concert in the Church of San Francisco, starting at 7:30 p.m. They will perform Christus Factus Est by Felipe Gorriti, Agur Doloretako, Stabat Mater and Adiós a la Santísima Virgen, and Stabat Mater by G. B. Pergolesi. The orchestra will feature Madrid soprano Pilar Sánchez Utrera and Tolosa native David Azurza Aranburu, who will perform alto voice. Sara Litón Castillo will conduct.
The first part of the concert will consist of works by Felipe Gorriti. The choir will perform Agur Doloretako (1894) and Stabat Mater, both created for the nuns of the convent of Santa Clara de Tolosa. Alto and soprano voices sing together in the song “Agur Doloretako.” The nuns sang to Our Lady of Sorrows in the procession before Palm Sunday, which was held on the Navarra Bridge.
Stabat Mater will be offered for two voices and with the help of the organ. It is an oratorio. The work was revised by Javier Bello Portu for string instruments and performed in an orchestrated version. It is a beautiful and sad composition with a slow rhythm.
They will also offer a salute to the Virgin. At the San José School of the Daughters of Jesus in Tolosa, they sang it regularly during the first half of the last century, on the occasion of the birthday of their Founding Mother. They will offer an orchestrated version of the work.
In the second part of the concert, they will perform Stabat Mater by Giovanni Batista. Among all the composers who have set to music the text by Jacopone da Todi, the Italian Giovanni Battista Pergolesi stands out, who wrote his Stabat Mater with the aim of bringing sacred history closer to the people. He composed for two castrati and choir, with the help of a string orchestra and harpsichord. His version is undoubtedly one of the most acclaimed in the history of music.
