Kutsidazu bidea, Ixabel – Guided Tour

“Kutsidazu bidea, Ixabel”, a short humorous novel published by Joxean Sagastizabal in 1994, has subsequently served as the basis for several plays, a film, a television series and a musical of the same name. It is a novel written from the author’s own experiences and which he set in a farmhouse in Hernialde: the main character is a young man from San Sebastian who came to learn Basque. It is about the route he took every day from Hernialde to the Basque school in Alkiza. Some passages of the film were also filmed on this popular path.

Distance: from Hernialde to Alkiza 4.4 km Estimated time: 1 hour 30 minutes. Free visit in Basque.

Due to the construction of the road on the public path, another alternative has been marked to go up to Alkiza. In reference to the elements of the novel, Lauhortza is the element with which the route has been identified. This route, suitable for enjoying with the family, follows the traditional popular path that links Hernialde with Alkiza. In addition, it allows you to enjoy the beautiful view of the Hernio-Gazume massif and the rural landscape of the Mandabe stream plain.

“… the path ran through a very orderly valley. That holy peace, the blue sky, the fields, the goals, the farm, the still cool but warm breeze… The smells of the mountain.” “Kutsidazu bidea, Ixabel” Joxean Sagastizabal.

Three stops have been designed along the route that highlight the vocabulary and other references of the novel.
