An author museum that fuses art and nature
The Ur mara Museum exhibits works of all kinds outdoors, among the trees of an autochthonous forest. Not only does it house Koldobika Jauregi’s work, it is also an extension of his concerns: ecology, ethnography, nature, philosophy and poetry.
More than just a museum
Ur mara constitutes a springboard of the diversity of artistic languages and their different processes, creating a platform of education, knowledge and dialogue that favors experimentation and freedom.
Art in the forest, without invading it
The main showrooms of the Ur mara museum are part of an autochthonous forest: among beeches, oaks, ash trees, chestnut trees and birches we find sculptures and installations, a natural auditorium and also ethnographic traces such as an old lime burner housed next to the small limestone quarry.
Outdoor sculptures
In permanent exhibition, we find 30 large-format sculptures outdoors, carved in Basque marbles from the towns of Lastur -of grayish tones-, and Markina -of black tones-.
A cabin dedicated to poetry
Koldobika Jauregi and Elena Cajaraville were inspired by the work of Henry David Thoreau to build their own cabin in the woods, in which they lived for a time. Now it is a space linked to the project ‘Refuge of the Word’, dedicated to poetry and free thought. Do you want to live the experience of spending the night in it?
A greenhouse where creativity flows
A covered area of about 100 square meters hides the most diverse works that changes temporarily: paintings, sculptures, illustrations … It also hosts concerts, workshops and other activities.
Nature at its best
The beauty of the sculptures, the murmur of the streams and the whisperings of the trees will immerse you in a magical world.
Koldobika Jauregi
Multifaceted artist born in Alkiza, whose work takes place between tradition and modernity. He is a disciple of Eduardo Chillida, who awarded him the Zabalaga scholarship. Throughout his career he has exhibited at the Guggenheim-Bilbao or the Würth.
Elena Cajaraville
Multidisciplinary artist from Gipuzkoa, who, together with Koldobika Jauregi, was the creator of the museum. Among other projects, she was artistic director of the film Dantza, shaping the props and costumes designed by Koldobika.
Visits to the Museum
Ur mara offers guided tours to the museum for groups of various kinds, from schools to groups that are interested in knowing and investigating the wide range of activities that are carried out.
